When your digital photos have been downloaded to the computer and edited, it is time to decide what to do with them. You can keep them on your computer where no one else will see them, or you can display them.

The easiest way to display digital images is on a digital photo frame. Digital photo frames are easy to use and will rotate through hundreds of photos in an automated slideshow. When you purchase a digital photo frame, there are several factors to consider, such as price and resolution.

Digital photo frames range in price from $50 to $250. Knowing how much you can spend and what you want in a digital photo frame will help you narrow down the selection.

Cheaper digital photo frames simply display the images in a slideshow. As the price goes up, so do the options. The more expensive digital photo frames include sound and a touchpad, which gives you the option to touch the screen and comment or upload photos to Facebook. They may also have Internet radio and a wireless Internet connection that allows other people to e-mail pictures directly to the photo frame.

Decide if you just want to see pictures of your children or if you want to hear their voices recorded with the photo. If the frame will be a gift, will the recipient upload photos to the digital photo frame, or would it be easier for you and others to e-mail the photos to the picture frame? If you decide you want to e-mail photos to the digital photo frame, purchase a Wi-Fi enabled frame. Before you buy, make sure the recipient has access to a wireless network.

Consider the resolution of the photo frame. Do not buy a frame with a resolution lower than 640 x 480. “Resolution” refers to how detailed, or clear, the image is. The lower the resolution number, the fuzzier the image will be. The higher the resolution number, usually 800 x 600, the clearer the images will be.

Next, look for the internal storage capacity or external memory card. These terms tell the number of photos that can be stored and how you will save the images to the frame. For example, a photo frame with a 512 MB internal storage capacity can store around 2,500 images. To get the images to a photo frame with internal storage, transfer them from your computer to a USB jump drive (also called flash drive) and download them from the jump drive to the frame. To get the images to a photo frame with an external memory card, load a memory card and insert it into the photo frame.

One other important factor to consider is the aspect ratio. Most digital cameras take photos using a width-to-height ratio of 4:3. This is referred to as the aspect ratio. When purchasing a digital photo frame, select one that has an aspect ratio of 4:3. This ratio will prevent your images from being cropped by the frame.

Other useful technologies to consider when displaying photos are the uploading services provided by companies such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Kodak, Shutterfly and Snapfish. These are just a few of the many sites that allow you to upload photos and then print or make photo books, Christmas cards, calendars and more.

When selecting a service, remember that photos can be picked up in-store at both Wal-Mart and Walgreens, but the others require that your prints, memory books and other items be mailed to you. Also, many sites offer sign-up bonuses, discounts and coupons, so be sure to look for those before beginning a project.

Deciding how to share your photos is nearly as much fun as taking the original photos, and the possibilities are almost endless.
