Fall Flower, Garden Fest set for Crystal Springs
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- The biggest gardening and horticulture event in the Southeast will be held Oct. 20 and 21 at the Truck Crops Experiment Station in Crystal Springs.
The 28th annual Fall Flower and Garden Fest will be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. both days. Admission is free. Features will include three acres of vegetable, flower and herb gardens, and wagon and walking tours.
Visitors can view educational displays and demonstrations and attend any of 17 seminars on a variety of gardening and outdoor topics each day. One of this year’s new exhibits will feature ardening for the handicapped and elderly.
The theme of the 2006 flower and garden fest is energy, and one of the seminars will focus on landscaping for energy conservation. There also will be a presentation on plants that are grown for biomass fuels. In keeping with the energy theme, many of the vegetable varieties on display this year are named for various models of cars.
Vendors will have food ranging from catfish to homemade ice cream for sale each day. Visitors also can find new additions for their home and yard at the annual plant sale by wholesale nurseries and garden centers throughout Mississippi.
Mississippi State University’s Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station sponsor the event, which attracts more than 6,000 visitors each year.
