4-H robotics tech track gives students job skills
MISSISSIPPI STATE – Robotics is a gateway to engineering careers and the focus of one track at the 2012 4-H Tech Camp in Starkville.
Mississippi high school students in 4-H can learn how to apply their technical skills to college success in the senior robotics track at Tech Camp. The residential program is offered through the Mississippi State University Extension Service 4-H youth program.
From July 17 to 19, students will get a taste of college life and learn more about robotics. In addition to an all-new robotics challenge, participants will learn about careers, how robotics are used in industry and how to apply for scholarships. Guest speakers will share information on writing a resume, dressing for success and interview etiquette.
“This track is designed for our experienced 4-H’ers who are about to embark on their high school or college careers but still want to have fun,” said Mariah Smith, assistant Extension professor in Computer Applications and Services. “We want to help them build a bridge between their 4-H robotics experiences and careers in engineering, mathematics and technology.”
The senior robotics track is open to 4-H’ers ages 14 to 18. The camp is $250, and the fee includes housing, meals, on-site transportation and field trips. Pre-registration is available online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2rvx8p8. A $50 deposit is required.
