Registration open for outdoor summer camps
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Youth interested in outdoor fun and hands-on learning experiences can register for two different summer camps focused on natural resources.
High school students curious about careers in natural resources are invited to attend Mississippi State University’s Natural Resources Summer Camp June 10 to 14. Any high school student entering ninth grade in 2012 or older may attend. This includes 2012 graduating seniors.
The Natural Resources Summer Camp introduces participants to opportunities in scientific and conservation careers through activities including water quality testing, canoeing, birding and forest wildlife management.
The $190 fee includes food, lodging and on-site transportation. Sponsorships may be available for students demonstrating financial need. Register at http://www.cfr.msstate.edu/summer_camp.
This camp is sponsored by MSU’s College of Forest Resources, the MSU Extension Service, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
A second outdoor camp is open to younger students.
MSU’s Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture camp runs from July 8 to 12 for campers ages 12 to18. Activities include archery, bowfishing, trap/skeet shooting, canoeing, and classes on wildlife biology and management. Participants can complete the requirements for hunter education and boater safety certification.
The $285 fee includes food, lodging and on-site transportation. A 25 percent discount is available for siblings, reducing the cost to $214 after the first full-price registration. A $100 deposit is due at the time of registration. Space is limited to 24 campers.
