Saturday garden series trains area enthusiasts
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- A monthly garden series at Mississippi State University gives gardening enthusiasts timely tips and techniques to try out in their own landscapes.
Called the “Last Saturday Garden Series,” these events are hosted by the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi State Trial Gardens. All the hands-on events are free, open to the public and typically held in the morning.
The March 29 session is Seed Starting 101. Participants will learn how to manage conditions for successful seed sprouting, handle transplants and avoid plant diseases. The April 26 session will focus on Plants for Pollinators. May 24 is an open house and plant sale.
Other scheduled topics include tropical landscapes, wreath making, holiday plants, planning a fall garden and hugelkultur, a type of raised-bed gardening.
Events are held either at the Dorman Greenhouse on the main campus or at the Mississippi State Trial Gardens located north of campus on Highway 182 in the R.R. Foil Plant Science Research Center.
