PICAYUNE -- The Mississippi State University Crosby Arboretum in Picayune invites artists and craftsmen of all media to enter an art show scheduled for April 10-12.

The show, sponsored by the Crosby Arboretum Foundation, will celebrate the Piney Woods region of Mississippi. It will feature paintings, photography, and sculptures, in addition to works of art in clay, metal, wood, thread and cloth. Awards will be presented April 12.

The show will have three categories: wall art, such as paintings and photographs; three-dimensional art, such as sculpture of all kinds and other art that may be viewed in three dimensions; and crafts, such as wood carving, quilts, jewelry and leather. It includes a youth division for entrants in seventh through 12th grades.

Art entries should depict the character of the Piney Woods region, including its features, flora, fauna and culture. Artwork showcasing the Crosby Arboretum is also encouraged.

Operated by the MSU Extension Service, the Crosby Arboretum is an educational facility dedicated to preserving, protecting and displaying plants native to the Pearl River Drainage Basin ecosystem. The arboretum holds cultural, scientific and recreational programs throughout the year.
