MSU welcomes producers to advisory council sessions
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Scientists are seeking producer input on future agricultural research and outreach programming at three Mississippi State University Research and Extension Centers.
Producers of more than a dozen commodities will meet with specialists and researchers from the MSU Extension Service and Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station during Producer Advisory Council meetings in Verona, Raymond and Biloxi.
The MSU North Mississippi Research and Extension Center will host the Verona session Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. in the Magnolia Building of the Lee County Agri-center.
After a general session, producers will split into 15 individual commodity groups to identify priorities specifically for their needs. The groups include agritourism, aquaculture, beef, cotton, dairy, equine, forestry, ornamentals, peanuts, swine, turf, grain crops, sweet potatoes, fruits and vegetables, and goats and sheep.
The Lee County Agri-Center is located at 5395 Miss. Highway 145. To preregister, call 662-566-2201. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
The MSU Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center will host the Central Mississippi Producer Advisory Council meeting Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. in the McKenzie Arena in Raymond.
After a general session, producers will split into nine commodity sessions to share their research needs with Extension and Experiment Station experts. The groups include beekeeping, dairy, vegetables, agricultural crops, beef and forages, forestry and wildlife, fruits and nuts, home gardening and ornamentals, and small ruminants and swine.
The McKenzie Arena is located at 1178 Seven Springs Road in Raymond behind the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center. To preregister, call 601-857-2284. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Scheduled for Feb. 28, the Coastal Producer Advisory Council meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi.
After a general session, producers will break into nine individual commodity groups to discuss research and Extension needs for 2017. The groups include beekeeping, equine, forestry, fruits, livestock, vegetables, home horticulture, row crops, and commercial ornamental horticulture.

At each meeting, producers will reconvene for another general session to share the highlights of their group discussions and suggested priorities during lunch, which is included in the registration fee. All meetings will adjourn at approximately 2 p.m.
