Floral design workshops open for registration
BILOXI, Miss. -- People of all ages and experience levels can learn to make various floral arrangements during the spring series of floral design workshops beginning Feb. 19.
Jim DelPrince, horticulture specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, will show attendees how to make various seasonal arrangements. Special guest designers Connie Belk and Pam Perkins also will offer demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
Belk and Perkins are two of the first graduates of the Extension Master Floral Designer program.
Seven workshops are aimed at floral enthusiasts.
From Feb. 19-21, professional florists and those with little to no experience can learn how to handle, design and sell wedding flowers in the Wedding Floral Workshop.
On March 8, DelPrince will share insights on garden and horticultural design with a presentation and live floral demonstration.
On April 2, attendees will learn to create a silk floral headstone arrangement.
On April 17, Belk and Perkins will teach attendees how to make a fresh floral Easter arrangement.
On May 11, 5- to 8-year-olds are invited to make a fresh floral arrangement for Mother’s Day.
On June 13, 8- to 12-year-olds will participate in a hands-on tutorial to create three floral arrangements and tour the gardens at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center.
On June 18, participants will learn to make a terrarium.
A March 7 workshop will be offered to certified Master Floral Designers and those in training. DelPrince will show participants how to create a fresh-cut table accent arrangement, drawing on his years of experience blending horticulture and floral design.
Registration is required and costs vary. Seating is limited. Some workshops require attendees to bring tools.

All workshops, except the February wedding floral workshop, will be held in the floral studio at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center, located at 1815 Popps Ferry Road in Biloxi. The wedding floral workshop will be held at the MSU Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center, located at 1320 Seven Springs Road in Raymond.
