Pesticide waste disposal event set for Nov. 19
GREENWOOD, Miss. – Mississippi farmers and residents who live in the Greenwood area can drop off their unused agricultural pesticides and electronic waste during the Agricultural Pesticide Disposal Day event.
The collection event is Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Leflore County Civic Center located at 200 Highway 7 North in Greenwood.
Herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and other pesticide products will be accepted. Electronics and a limited number of tires also will be collected. Each farmer may drop off up to 10 automobile-sized tires and two tractor-sized tires. No rinsates, bulk containers or household pesticides will be accepted.
The event is free to Mississippi farmers. Participants are responsible for safely transporting their chemicals and other products. Leaky containers must be in secondary containers: trash bags for granular products and empty bulk containers or plastic storage bins for liquids.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service partnered with Greenwood Leflore Recycle Center to coordinate the event. Funds were provided by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.
