Taylor to lead MSU Extension early childhood programs
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State University Extension Service has a new leader at the helm of its programs aimed at early childhood education.
Jamila Taylor was named executive director of Early Childhood Extension Programs in the MSU School of Human Sciences Feb. 16.
In her new role, Taylor will oversee current programs, family engagement efforts and the development of statewide training programs in partnership with MSU Extension agents. Taylor succeeds the late Louise E. Davis, who spent more than two decades with MSU Extension providing research-based educational programs to children and families in all 82 counties.
“I am deeply honored to step into this role and continue the work inspired by Dr. Davis,” Taylor said. “I look forward to advancing our mission and creating transformative opportunities for children and families throughout Mississippi.”
Taylor brings more than 17 years of experience to the position. She has served in various leadership roles during her time with MSU Extension, including associate director of the MSU Extension Head Start–Early Head Start Program, the Nurturing Homes Initiative and the Mississippi LIFT Resource and Referral Network, where she helped establish equitable, high-quality learning systems.
Sheri Worthy, director of the MSU School of Human Sciences, said Taylor brings innovative leadership that will continue to positively impact children and families across Mississippi.
“Jamila’s leadership and dedication to early childhood education are unparalleled,” Worthy said. “Her extensive experience and passion for empowering children and families will ensure that the program continues to thrive and build upon a strong foundation.”
