June 3 11:00 a.m. Dean Sisters Club Lamb Sale(Dennis Dean) - West, MS40 lambs - Suffolks, Crosses, Hampshires; 662/464-8822 June 17 12:00 noon Mississippi Sheep Producers Club Lamb Sale This sale will be held at the Fairgrounds in Jackson, MS. This will be one of your best sources for project lambs. Mark this date on your calendar. These lambs will work for the 1999 State Fair in October and the 2000 spring shows next February. CONTEST REMINDERS
4-H district and state contests are just around the corner. Contests in the 4-H animal and dairy sciences area are Visual Presentations for juniors (three divisions included [1] beef, sheep, swine; [2] horse; [3] dairy animals, dairy products) AND seniors (five divisions including [1] beef; [2] sheep, swine; [3] horse; [4] dairy animals; [5] dairy products.) Other contests available are meats judging identification contest, meats bowl, and dairy bowl for senior members and dairy products judging for juniors and seniors. These are excellent contests. If we can provide you with information about these contests, please let me know.
MISSISSIPPI JUNIOR DAIRY PRODUCTION CONTEST
I encourage you to add special promotion to our junior production contests. The 4-H dairy project member must own a registered Holstein or Jersey cow that is on an approved testing program. An entry form, JD-1, must be filled out within 60 days after the cow is fresh. The participantsí entries will be ranked on ECM and awards are given at the annual meeting of the Holstein and Jersey Associations.
MSU LIVESTOCK JUDGING WORKSHOP & ORAL REASONS CAMP
The Animal & Dairy Sciences Department will again be conducting a Livestock Judging & Oral Reasons Camp for those students involved with judging team activities. This will be a very intensive 4 day school with sessions held all day and each evening. The school will be conducted by Tommy Shields, MSU Livestock Judging Team Coach, with help form current judging team members.
The school will start on Tuesday, June 6, at 10:00 a.m. and conclude with a contest on Friday morning, June 9, finishing at noon. The cost for the school will be $125.00 for participating youth which includes room, meals, tee-shirt, and pizza party. The students will stay in a dorm with meals in the cafeteria. We would also like to invite any interested Ag teachers or County Agents to attend for a charge of $85.00.
This will be a working school, but also provides interaction with MSU staff members and students and other 4-H and FFA members . . . a great opportunity for those wanting to become competitive in judging contests and improve upon their communicative skills. Alert your judging team members about this workshop.
The school will be limited to the first 65 applications - - at least 14 years old and still in school. Registration forms are due May 31, 2000. We will send more details to you once the registration form is received. If you did not receive a registration form sent out in April, please call.
NOTICE!!! DRESSAGE PATTERN FOR STATE 4-H HORSE SHOW
We will use the 2000 Training Level, Test 4 at the State 4-H Horse Show and Southern Regional. Alert your exhibitors!
4-H DAIRY POSTER CONTEST
The theme for the 2000 Dairy Poster Contest is "Get-Mooving with MILK!" Publication 799 contains all the information about this contest and it can be obtained from Extension Supply by electronic publication ordering from Department A9 (Dairy). Your county winners in the three age divisions are to be delivered to the Bost Extension Center "B" on Tuesday, June 13th, the first day of State 4-H Club Congress for judging in the state contest. The deadline will be 11:30 a.m. Good Luck!

We will be conducting a 4-H Dairy Products Judging Workshop on Friday, May 26, 2000, in Room 214 of the Herzer Building on the Mississippi State University campus beginning at 1:30 p.m. Please let Gale Chrestman know by May 22, 2000, if your county plans to participate and how many will be attending.
4-H MEATS IDENTIFICATION & JUDGING WORKSHOP
We will be conducting a 4-H Meats ID & Judging Workshop, Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at the Animal & Dairy Sciences Meats Lab in Ballew Hall on the Mississippi State University campus beginning at 10:00 a.m. We should conclude around 3:00 p.m. This workshop is for agents, volunteers, and 4-Híers. 4-H HORSE CAMP IN VERONA
A 4-H Horse Camp will be held June 28-29, 2000, at the AgriCenter in Verona. 4-Híers are required to bring their horse or pony to this camp. The camp will be limited to the first 60 4-Híers that sign up. For additional information, call Sherry Smith at 662-841-9000.
2000 MISSISSIPPI STATE FAIR SCHEDULE
Please find attached the schedule for the 2000 Mississippi State Fair. You will notice that the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, the State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest, and the State 4-H Beef, Pork, & Poultry Cookout Contests have been included in the activities at the State Fair this year.
BE A CHAMP! CAMP
This camp will be held June 16-18, 2000, at the Hinds Community College facility in Raymond. It is for 4-H members who want to learn basic and advanced showmanship, clipping, grooming, and feeding of their beef animals or lamb projects. For additional information, call Kipp Brown (662-283-5304).
4-H DAIRY BOWL CONTEST
The Senior Dairy Bowl Contest will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at 4-H Club Congress. Questions for this contest will come from the last 12 months issues of Hoardís Dairyman Magazine. For additional information, give Gale Chrestman a call.
STATEWIDE HORSE JUDGING CLINIC
The Statewide Horse Judging Clinic is scheduled for June 27, 2000, beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be no registration fee this year. THE LOCATION IS DIFFERENT THIS YEAR. THE CLINIC WILL BE HELD ON THE MSU CAMPUS IN BOST BUILDING B.
We will utilize video tape and discuss scoring western riding, reining and other similar classes. We will have discussions on western pleasure and hunter under saddle classes, as well as, discussing conformation evaluation. If you have any questions, please call Brett Scott (662-325-3515).
