Heritage festival exhibits traditional skills, arts
PICAYUNE, Miss. -- The two-day Piney Woods Heritage Festival will feature an historical reenactment along with a showcase of skills and traditions of the region on Nov. 9 and 10.
Visitors to the Mississippi State University Crosby Arboretum in Picayune will experience a living history presentation by Cathy Shropshire on Nov. 9 during the festival’s opening event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Shropshire will portray Fannye Cooke, a pioneering Mississippi conservationist and scientist. This event includes a 30-minute performance, reception and book signing.
On Nov. 10, attendees will enjoy live music along with educational exhibits and skill demonstrations, including blacksmithing, quilting, spinning, pine-needle basket making and live, heritage-breed farm animals. Activities begin at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.
All events are open to the public. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children and free to arboretum members.
