Rural Medical & Science Scholars Summer 2025, June 8–20
What Will I Do as a Rural Medical & Science Scholar?
For 2 weeks this summer, you will—
- make new friends with similar interests and goals.
- tour the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and talk with faculty and students.
- take Introduction to Health Professions, a college-level health sciences course.
- begin certification as a Junior Master Wellness Volunteer.
- participate in practical learning activities such as Injury and Illness Simulation, Gray for a Day, Scholars in the Kitchen, Scholars in Engineering, and Suturing Techniques.
- live on campus, including weekends, and get a taste of college life.
Do I qualify? Yes, if you–
- are currently completing your junior year of high school.
- received a minimum composite score of 20 on the ACT.
- have good grades that complement your ACT scores.
- want to learn about a career in health or STEM fields.
- are a Mississippi resident.
How do I apply?
- Visit our website for more information on how to apply. extension.msstate.edu/RMS
- Ask one of your teachers to write a recommendation letter.
- Ask the recommending teacher to forward the application and recommendation to your guidance counselor.
- Your counselor will need to send ACT scores and an official transcript. You will need to submit the completed application postmarked by April 14, 2025.
How much does it cost?
$2,600 (includes $100 application fee)
- The program cost includes tuition, housing, textbooks, program/workshop materials, food for lunch and dinner, and the application fee.

Are scholarships available?
- Scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $2,600 are available on a needs basis; first come, first served.
- Depending on scholarship, some scholars are resposible for paying the $100 registration fee to ensure participation. The $100 registration fee is only paid if you are accepted into the program.
