Mississippi State Extension Equine Hippology Video-Item Identification
Mississippi State University Extension Equine is proud to present our equine educational video series. These videos are designed to educate the community about practical horse information. These videos are also helpful in preparing students for State 4-H Hippology contests. Hippology is "the study of the horse" and is a fun way for 4-H youth to get involved without needing to own a horse! We hope you enjoy our educational series and learn a little more about horses!
This video is designed to help students involved in hippology competitions practice and learn more about horses! This is also an excellent tool for organization leaders, extension agents, or anyone wanting to test or enhance their equine knowledge. This video features a "practice station" of 5 items where viewers are tasked with identifying the proposed items. At the end of the video, viewers will learn the name of the item and how it is used.

T.J. Carr of Carr's Farrier Service in Mathiston, Mississippi visits with us about parts of the hoof and a few common questions farriers get asked. T.J. is the farrier for the MSU Equestrian Team and many of our personal horses. Join us in learning more about this important part of our horses!

We continue our equine nutrition talk with grain. Although forage should be the foundation of every equine diet, some horses might need supplementation of grains to meet their nutritional needs. This week you will learn a little more about the importance of feeding by weight instead of volume and about different types of commercially available grains.

VERONA, Miss.
RAYMOND, Miss. -- A large group of agricultural producers and industry professionals met with Mississippi State University personnel during the 2025 Central Mississippi Producer Advisory Council meeting Feb. 18 in Raymond at the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center. The annual forum provides clients, MSU administrators, researchers, specialists and Extension agents an opportunity to meet in small commodity groups to discuss the research and educational needs of producers in the region.
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Amy Knight has seen her 13-year-old son, Cameron, make substantial strides in his speech and core strength since he began horse riding three years ago.

She knew she wanted to teach even when she was just a kid, but Dr. Molly Nicodemus also realized pretty quickly that she wanted to teach older students at the college level. Now an associate professor in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Mississippi State University, Nicodemus has embraced a new teaching role with adolescents and teens as a volunteer leader for the Winston County 4-H Horse Club.
In late February, Mississippi State University hosted the 2024 National Floriculture Forum, an annual conference held at different locations around the country.
4-H builds teen's life skills
On first glance, she seems an ordinary teen, but Oktibbeha County 4-H’er Millie Thompson has an exceptional work ethic, and she’s achieved success at the national level. Everything she does is inspired by Ecclesiastes 9:10, she says.
